Unable to launch software component to play [sound name]

Problem:

When I try to insert or play a clip gallery movie or sound in Powerpoint 97 I get the message "Unable to launch software component to play......."

See Cannot Preview Sounds or Movies in Clip Gallery for more information and suggestions.

What it works out to is that they don't have Sound Recorder installed and Clip Gallery uses Sound Recorder and MPlayer to play video and sounds.
