We used to suggest centering the text then entering manual linebreaks (ie, Shift+Enter) between each character until Barry Guyer pointed out a far better way of doing it:
Enter your text.
Format it center aligned.
Now grab the left or right edge of the text box and drag it to make the text box as narrow as possible. That's all there is to it. A round of applause for Barry, people.
