Make a standalone EXE that runs a PowerPoint presentation

Problem

You want to distribute a presentation that's as simple as possible for recipients to use. You don't want them to have to download or install additional software, just click something and start the show.

Solution

What could be simpler than running a self-contained program? Double click the program's EXE file and you're under way.

PowerPoint MVP Geetesh Bajaj has worked out a simple, inexpensive way of converting PowerPoint presentations to standalone EXE files. He explains how to do it here:

Geetesh's PowerPoint to EXE method even allows for password protecting the presentation in some cases.

Or try SecurePack, a commercial addin that offers more flexibility and features. Here's a quote from the SecurePack web site:

Secure Pack is the ideal solution for distributing PowerPoint presentations. Protect presentations from being changed by the recipient. With the Secure Pack Wizard, any Microsoft PowerPoint user can quickly package one or multiple presentations into a SINGLE executable show. You can also include the files linked within them in the archive and distribute them for viewing and/or editing. Easily distribute this show on CD's or upload it to the your website for downloads. It converts the presentations into a valuable protected information resource that can be viewed exactly as you want it be viewed. In version 3.0 you have to ability to include the Microsoft PowerPoint viewer of your choice within the packed show to create standalone executables.
