32-bit, 64-bit ... what's this all about?
32-bit / 64-bit ... what's all this business about bitness?Windows 7 and Windows 8 are available in 32-bit and 64-bit versions.
Office 2010 and Office 2013 are available in 32-bit and 64-bit versions.
You can install 32-bit Office on either 32-bit or 64-bit Windows.
PPTools add-ins work in either situation.
You can only install 64-bit Office on 64-bit Windows.
Most of the PPTools add-ins will NOT work in 64-bit Office versions.
To see which version of Office 2010 you have:
- Start PowerPoint
- Click File
- Click Help
- On the right side of the Help pane, beneath About PowerPoint and next to Version it'll say either 32-bit or 64-bit
To see which version of Office 2013 0r 2016 you have:
- Start PowerPoint
- Click File
- Click Account
- On the right side of the Account pane, click About PowerPoint
- In the About Microsoft PowerPoint window that appears, it'll say either 32-bit or 64-bit at the end of the first line of text.
