PowerPoint 98 or 2001 crashes with a 'Type 2' error when I open it

Go to Macintosh HD:System Folder:Preferences:Microsoft. Delete any files called "PowerPoint Temp".

Apply the latest updates to PowerPoint.

Increase the memory allocation to PowerPoint:

Click the PowerPoint icon in the Finder, then go to File, Get Info, Memory.
Set the Preferred size to at least 25000K.
