What's a Staging Folder?

In the construction business, a "staging area" is a place where you assemble all your equipment and materials so it's ready to go out on the job.

In the presentation business, a "staging folder" is a folder where you assemble all the files and folders needed for a project so it's ready to play, email or burn to CD.

When you run FixLinks, it treats the folder holding the PowerPoint file as a staging folder. It puts copies of all linked files into the same folder as the PPT file.

You may not want that to happen to your original PPT file, so we strongly recommend that you create a separate staging folder for your project, put a copy of your PPT file there, and run FixLinks on the copy.
